Voting in the first round of the Canadian Blog Awards started today. The top five in each category will go on to the second round of voting.
I've said in the past, and I do believe, that the value in these types of awards is two fold. First of all, it exposes your blog to new readers. And secondly it is gratifying that someone thinks highly enough of your work to actually nominate you for something. It amazes me every time that not only do people keep coming back to read what I write but that some of them actually enjoy it.
I've been nominated in three categories, go figure. The first is Best Blog, which is probably a pretty big stretch; then there is Best Local Blog, which is probably the category I feel I best fit in (err, the Local Blog part, not the Best part); and finally Best Photo Blog. I have to admit I'm somewhat mystified by that last one. I don't really think of the House as a Photo Blog and thought I wouldn't qualify after the nominations closed (to qualify for a category at least 50% of the posts must apply to that category. There is hardly a photo up on my main page right now).
Being the somewhat incestuous lot that we are, there has been talk bandied about the Northern Blogosphere, about co-ordinating things so votes don't get split among the Nunavut/Northern nominees. Darcy and Megan have some of the run down on that. I understand the arguement, and you can head over there to see what they have to say (Darcy even has a poll set up), but really it matters not to me. Well not completely, a part of me wants the bragging rights, but often this comes down to how big your readership is, and I do think the value comes from the nomination and traffic.
But do head over, check out the nominated blogs in the many categories, chances are you'll discover new blogs to siphon off even more of your precious time. I've already discovered a couple. Consider who you'd like to see win. And if you really want a Nunavut blog to win, listen to the "vote as a block" group. And while I hope that you consider this blog as deserving of your vote, what I really want is for you (new reader or old friend) to stick around, and/or tell others to come visit.
Here is a run down of the Nunavut/Northern bloggers that I'm aware have been nominated. Besides my nominations that I mentioned above for…
