I can not tell you how disappointed I am in the current government’s decision to no longer fight for clemency for Canadians on death row in the US (There is currently one Canadian on Death Row there). I’ve long been proud of my country’s opposition to the death penalty, now it looks like that is changing. By asking or lobbying for clemency, you are not saying the accused didn’t get a fair trial, you are not saying that the person should go unpunished, and you are not "Supporting murderers" (as apparently some members of parliament were heard to say). You are saying that the death penalty is wrong.
The jury in the Inquest into the death of Kenton Carnegie, that I posted on earlier has found that he was killed in a wolf attack. It was interesting to see that one of the experts who testified was the same fellow who authored this paper on wolf attacks in North America, which I linked to in a past post (a post that I count among my best written). Significantly these were wolves habituated to people, something that many of the North American wolf attacks are attributable.
For a little bit of naval gazing, I had over 8000 hits
on The House in October, my highest (by 1,600) total yet, and 3000 more than the previous months. My mom must be hitting that refresh button a lot.
And don’t forget to watch Vimy Underground on the History Channel on Tuesday, November 6th at 8pm ET. Yeah, I’m not in it which is probably very disappointing to all of you, but it promises to be an interesting documentary, and it mentions my Grandfather.

Well said, Clare. I too oppose killing people.
thanks Pete.
Yet another indication that this government has to go! In fact, this one is even worse than their assumption that people living in the north are not real Canadians (if they were, then why do we need a renewed military presense to establish our claim to the region?). It really irks me than the Liberals won’t bring these clowns to their knees. What are they waiting for? OK, I feel a bit better now I’ve blown that off my chest! Back to regular programming…
