It was surprisingly cold today. Surprisingly cold after the feeling that we are turning towards Spring, it being the Equinox yesterday and all.  But at -30C with a stiff wind Spring seems a long way off. And it was directly into that stiff wind that a friend and I headed, back towards Ullisautitalik, or Rabbit Canyon.  Looking once again for the elusive redpolls that apparently reside there, and hopefully to get more photos of the Rock Ptarmigans we encountered last time.

Apart from the obligatory Ravens (almost always in pairs these days) we saw no life at the canyon. No redpolls, although we came tantalizingly close to ptarmigan. Very fresh tracks abounded, but search as we might we could not find them.

With the growing light there is growing evidence of the Arctic Hare's increase in activity. Parts of the canyon were like highways, or rabbit playgrounds. I paused for a couple of photos, and then we headed back across Adam's Sound, passing Arctic Bay to the St George's Society Cliffs to see if the Gyrfalcons might be about yet, but continuing to see only Ravens playing high along the cliffs, tumbling and soaring wing tip to wing tip.
