When I went out to start the truck this morning to take Travis to school I discovered that the Hamlet is offering an new service to go with their water delivery, free truck washes. It would appear that somehow when our water was delivered last night the hose must have got away from the operator. I came out to find a layer of ice coating most of the truck, it is, after all, -25C out.
How much ice? Well, I had a heck of a time chipping a viewing port out of the windows, even after the truck had been running for fifteen minutes (I know… I know), the truck didn’t want to start because there was ice on the engine, my extension cord was frozen to the front of my truck, and the truck was frozen to the ground. I’m still trying to figure out if the coating of ice on my wall is going to help or hurt my insulation values on the water tank room.

How did you get the doors open?
LOL, this is funny! perhaps they are offering it on this side of Nunavut too, the trucks are really clean but maybe its also due to blizzard, then we had blowing snow, then drifting snow and god knows what else.. 🙂
I think the most important part of a Biome is the Flora and Fauna in the Biome. If I had to choose my favorite Biome it would be the Arctic Tundra.
I’ll never complain about one of our frosts again Clare!
Hi laura,
By brute force. My door was surprisingly easy to wrench open, the passenger door less so.
Thanks Aida, my truck was pretty clean still from the Prime Minister’s visit. Well clean being relative to how it normally would be.
thanks for visiting Cami. The arctic biome is one of my favourite’s also. I’m also rather partial to the Parkland biome.
The iceman cometh. It’s OK Clare, it’ll thawl out next spring. 🙂
I had a similar experience with my ski doo a few years back. Our local garage let people put their machines inside overnight(after hours) to thaw out for $25/night. One of my Inuk buddies came over with his machine and qammautik. We loaded my machine on, drove it up to the garage bay, dragged it inside, and in the morning, the machine started up on the first pull. all this is my round about way of asking if you have a place to thaw your machine out?
Gee, I thought a little morning frost was annoying…
BTW, I saw you mentioned in “Birding” (I think it was that magazine), congrats!
Hey Duncan, we must have cross posted. Australia gets frosts?
Yeah Dave you’re right, and spring is only six short months away.
Thats not a bad idea gary. Seeing it was the Hamlet’s water delivery that did it, perhaps I could thaw it out in one of their garages.
Thanks Patrick. Yes, Birding magazine. I should get someone to pick me up a copy.
Awwwwwwww!
I know, break out the violins…
OKAY….again will not complain about having to plug my vehicle in here in Alberta, although we are experiencing minus 20 with a wind chill. A few weeks ago I had problems with a worn out ignition switch on the 91 honda civic and until the tumbler could get replaced, I was driving everywhere with my booster cables and battery charger in tow…it would die in the oddest places like at the bank or after work or late night stop at A&W…and used my AMA meberships well.
Your story reminds me of the dodge truck that is the SS vehicle in Kugluktuk and how many times comung out in the morning it would not start even if plugged in…nurses always seemed to have a newer vehicle and washing off dust in the summer to participate in the Canada Day parade.
Looks like I will be in Arviat not Arctic Bay for Christmas and uncertain about January. I am but a small cog when these decisions are made but will miss you all so hope The House has a very cheerful and blessed Christmas.
Thanks Bonnie,
Enjoy Arviat. We’ll see you on your next trip up this way. Merry Christmas to you and yours also.
