These will be the last of the scanned slides for awhile. The first goes back before my time in Arctic Bay. This shot was taken from my house, the building you can see was the RCMP Detachment in Fort Providence (yeah, I had a long commute). That is a Wood Bison grazing on my lawn. Neither my house nor the old detachment exist anymore. Pity about the house as it had a lot of character and a great sun room overlooking the mighty MacKenzie River.
This next series is from Groenland. This shot is of the fjord below the glacier at Ilulissat (Jacobshaven). The Jacobshaven glacier is one of the most actively calving glaciers in the world and it produces many of the icebergs that eventually make it down our way. This fjord is chock full of ice (floating – the glacier is still farther back). Its difficult to tell the scale of these, but the ice in the foreground is very large, the icebergs in the background are massive, much larger than the huge icebergs that we see here.
These are icebergs near Jacobshaven I believe.
I'm not sure where this fjord is.
Likewise I'm not sure where this scene is taken, but I'm guessing it was up near Uummannaq. It isn't as sharp as the slide is but it is a pretty evocative image. On a side note, I'm pretty sure my internal horizontal balance is off, more often than not my photos have a noticible tilt to them, which I often fix on photoshop. I left this one as it was.
More photos below the fold.
These next slides are from Arctic Bay
These first two are Leah and I in front of the iceberg that I posted pictures of earlier.
And lastly here is a shot from atop of King George V, looking down at Arctic Bay. This is from my first spring and the hamlet has grown quite a bit in the intervening years. Those houses on the upper left are surrounded by many more, including the House. A quick count in my head and since this photo has been taken there have been two single family dwellings, four duplexs (one of which has since burnt down), three fourplexs, three fiveplexs (in various states of construction) and the House. In addition there are pilings for another fiveplex, and two duplexs or singles (not sure which) and a pad for an additional house. Sadly, there still isn't enough housing to go around up here.

Interesting that I was just reading a Greenland travel book earlier this week….if I wasn’t hooked before, I am now.
We also curious about when that last picture of town was taken. I noticed my building wasn’t there. I was once told its about 5-6 years old but I can’t remember who told me .
Love the wood buffalo scan. I just spent 15 months in Fort Resolution. I called the DPW department last winter to come and fix a clinic door that was frozen open. Seemed serious enough to me as we were all wearing parkas inside. I was informed I would have to wait (take a number) because the porch/steps into the Fort Providence Health Centre took precedence as it had been knocked over by a very itchy buffalo and needed to be replaced.LOL.
I so enjoy your pictures.
Hi Darcy. The picture from King George was taken spring 2000, probably April. I think your fourplex was either made in 2003 or 2002. Counting backwards, the fourplexs behind (along with the single family and the Taurus house) were made in 2004. The duplex up the street was 2003 and I can’t remember if yours was the same year or the year previous to that.
Those pesky Bison Indigo. I have a lot of Bison stories from Providence. They are afraid of absolutely nothing.
Thanks allmycke. I enjoy your photos as well.
Hi again Darcy,
I was looking closer at the picture of Arctic Bay and it must have been taken in the Spring of 2001. I see that our old Duplex (the one that burned down) is in the picture, and it would have been built in the 2000 season.
