Here are some interesting things for your perusal.
First of all, the 67th edition of I and the Bird is up at Trevor’s Birding, from way down under. As always there is a wide selection of bird posts to choose from as Trevor takes us on a holiday around the world. Stop by Murmuring Trees and listen as a little night magic turns Harriers into Short-eared Owls.
Next, Mike, Charlie and Corey, the tireless bunch over at 10,000 Birds, originators of I and the Bird, have a new endevour – Nature Blog Network, a Top list for Nature Blogs. I wasn’t sure I qualified, but Mike insisted I did, and now I spend most of my waking hours watching the House claw its way slowly up the list. If you blog nature, you need to sign up. If not, stop by and read the many blogs who already have.
And finally, Nick of The Birdist! was having a slow news day and decided to interview me. You can see our talk about Arctic Bay and the birds who hang out in the High Arctic here.

I ejoyed reading the little interview there. I was pretty shocked at just how many types of birds can be found here – far more than I thought. And I had to chuckle to myself when the interviewer used the phrase “in your neck of the woods” toward the end of the interview.
I see you have the Chet Raymo book on your end table–you’re the only one I’ve ever come across who’s read it–isn’t it a wonderful concept?
Thanks Darcy, there are about 50 possible species to be found up here. Just among the “common” gulls around town you can usually find three species, with two of them common the other a little harder to find (the differences between a Glaucous Gull and a Iceland Gull are pretty subtle). And I didn’t even catch the “neck of the woods” phrase. Wish I had of, and I would have milked it.
Thanks Nina. It is a wonderful book and concept. I set the book down when I got distracted by a couple of others but I think I’ll get back to it tonight.
Hey! Thanks for the mention of my post and blog. I have been reading your blog on and off for a while. (I sorta lost you in the shuffle.) I love your writing style. Your humor is infectious. If it’s Ok with you I would like to add you to my blogroll. K? Hmm, maybe on both blogs. (Why I just started another one is beyond me.) Bev
Hi Bev,
Thanks for the kind words. By all means you can add me to your blogroll. What is your other blog?
