The first sealift ship of the season arrived yesterday, after a delay of a couple of days (it had to move off the dock in Nanisivik to make room for the fuel ship). Sealift is such an exciting time, and Travis, Hilary and I went down to watch some of the unloading going on. The pictures don’t do it justice but there is this incredible hive of activity going on.
The ship offloads cargo on to a small barge
and a smaller boat brings it to shore. Loaders unload it and stack it in various spots on the shore. Other loaders are busy taking crates to where they belong. The Northern hires a whack of people to unload sea containers, so they can be put back on the ship. People are busy checking items off on clipboards, and of course there are 5 million kids running in and out of crates and generally getting underfoot.
Our grocery order arrives on the next ship, due in on the 31st. Now that is exciting.
