I have to say that I am, um, disappointed in Paul Okalik. His decision not to let his name stand for a cabinet post after losing the Premiership to Eva Aariak smacks of nothing more than sour grapes (Tagak Curley also didn't let his name stand and the same goes for him, but truth be told I'd rather not see him in the cabinet).
The message that is being sent here is that his wanting to serve the people of Nunavut is solely based on his being the top dog. That it is not about service but about self-service. The former Premier is a talented man, with much to offer – as Justice Minister or some other portfolio, and to not use those talents just because he can't be Premier is wrong.
Nunavut needs its most skilled politicians in places where they can do the most good, for the betterment of Nunavut. Not for self-aggrandizing and promotion. I thought you were better than that Paul.

Well said. My thoughts exactly.
It seems to be a common theme down here Darcy.
Hey Clare, question for you: why would you prefer Tagak as a non-minister.
Personally, I agree – I like him as a shit-stirrer-upper (that’s the journalist in me talking though).
Do you have another reason?
Hi Jackie. It is probably more visceral than anything. Probably the main reason is that he has shown himself as being intolerant, especially in regards to issues like same sex marriages. I also feel (and emphasize feel not know) that he is unable to seperate his faith from his governance, something I do not want to see in the men and women who govern.
I also found the use of the blogging world in spreading the 10 point program both brilliant and disturbing. It appeared to come from his campaign, although there is no evidence of that, and I question why that would be done anonymously.
If all of this seems less that concrete it is. Like I said it is more visceral than anything. But usually I listen to that little voice in my head.
