Link to part one.

After he left I continued to try and get some background information on Michael J. and not knowing where else to look I again called the Sheriff in Incline Village. “Am I ever glad you called back.” He said.  “I never wrote down your number. That warrant is for $20,000.00 for POJ.  You still can’t execute it but I thought you might want to know.”

Now police work, like any other profession has it’s jargon and acronyms, but POJ was not something I was familiar with, so I asked.  “Pissing Off the Judge” was the reply.  Seems like my friend had had a judgement in this divorce go against him and didn’t follow through with what he was supposed to.

So another piece dropped into place but I had nothing I could arrest him for. A fine warrant down in the states wasn’t an extraditable offence and there was no criminal offence that we knew had been committed. And then Chilliwack Detachment came through.  They had gone to the registered owners place and that was when he discovered the trailer plate had been stolen off his trailer. Now I had something.

I had Mark and Kevin meet me at the Friendship Centre and let them know what we had, then we went inside to arrest Michael J.. When we got to front desk however we were told there was no Michael J. staying there. The guy with the Bronco. And the clerk then told us he was registered under another name. With key in hand we went down to his room, knocked and then entered the room, surprising Michael J. in bed.

I explained to him that he was under arrest for possession of stolen property and gave him his rights. As he was an American citizen I told him that I had to advise the American consulate of his arrest unless he specifically asked me not to.  He did NOT want me to contact his consulate.

Michael J. got out of his bed, and it was then I noticed that his toenails were polished, a jar of nail polish was on the night table beside him. I explained to him that he was going to accompany us back to the office, and that he could speak to a lawyer there.  I also told him that we were bringing his truck and boat back with us (he had the choice of one of us driving it there or a tow truck) and that I would be searching them there. He did NOT want them searched.

Michael J. wanted to know what would happen to his stuff in the room, again he had an option.  He could bring his effects with him, or he could leave them in his room.  He wanted to bring them with him.  He grabbed a duffle bag and began to put stuff in it, but the way he let his hand linger inside the bag again set bells a ringing. I not too subtly reached down and unsnapped by sidearm, then I noticed that Mark had already unholstered his, and held it at the ready, by his leg.  This was not lost on Michael J. and he no longer lingered while packing. I took the bag from him when he was done and we handcuffed him and headed back to our office.

To be continued….
