What a gorgeous day. It was supposed to be thirteen today, which would have been the warmest it’s been in over three years. I just checked though, and the high today was 9. It was sunny and calm, and I worked outside all day. It is great to be able to work in just a t-shirt. Well not just a t-shirt, that would be a little immodest, but no jacket.
Seeing it was a day for outside work, and that after a couple of days of steady rain revealed our shed’s temporary roof was leaking badly, I set to work on the roof. I replaced the tarps with Tyvek, and bathed in the bright white light reflecting from it, while I strapped out the work. I would have finished it but for the fact that today was a day for visitors.
We started getting them shortly after work started. Jose Kusugak, president of the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and an assistant stopped by. Jose is also associated with Atuqtuarvik Corporation, who holds our mortgage, so he took the opportunity to have a tour of the building and take some pictures.
Shortly after they left Satrayanda Dave, a former school principal here, stopped in. He took a quick tour and liked what he saw.
But later in the afternoon, we got a visitor who is one of the most important people in government in Canada. Sheila Fraser is the Auditor General of Canada.
She is the person who, more than anyone else (well, except the electorate) holds the government accountable, fiscally and otherwise, for their actions. She was up along with an Assistant Auditor General, Ronnie Campbell (a former Bay Boy, who lived in the Arctic) and stopped in to see the House and take the tour. Its’ good to know that I’ve got customers if ever they pass this way again.
The heat has brought out the flowers, and it looks as though they are about a week behind. I’ve got to get out for a walk soon, before they are gone.
After making supper I took it out to Victor Bay where Leah and Travis were. They were celebrating Nunavut Day today and there was a country food feast out there. It was even nicer out over there, if that was possible, and it is too bad that all of the summer isn’t like this. It is supposed to rain again tomorrow, wish I would have finished that shed roof.
