Gary is back.  And that means that we are getting things done at a more efficient rate these days. There have been quite a few visible changes in the last couple of days, and it is easier to visualize the finished product. Doors are starting to go on, all the window sills are ready to install, and there is more Crown moulding in place.

Yesterday, I received another lesson in how everything is interconnected and how one job often can proceed until another one has been finished.  On Wednesday evening Gary and I were discussing what my missions were going to be for the next day. We were in Client room 1, and we decided that I would carry on with crown moulding. Gary didn’t make me tear out the crown moulding I installed in his absence, so that was a good sign.  He did, of course have some suggestions that would have made the first attempt easier, but I knew that that would probably be the case.

As we were talking, we noted that the room only had a coat of primer on the walls, so I’d need to put a roller width of paint around the top where the crown moulding goes.  Of course, by the time yesterday morning rolled around, I had already forgotten that.

Anxious to get started I quickly set to work first thing in the morning, and before long had the first moulding up. Drat, forgot to paint. So, I gathered up paint and a roller and proceeded to put a band of paint around the top of the walls.  Fine so far, but just as I was finishing Gary came in and looked it over. He told me that I’d have to go back over the edge with a dry roller, otherwise there would be a line visible when we painted the whole room. While we were talking about that we decided that, for the time it would take I might as well paint the room.

So I started painting, but of course I didn’t prepare the wall first. This particular client room was used as our coffee room for much of the project, and how we managed to get drops of coffee on the wall, almost to the ceiling is beyond me.  So now I had to put down the paint and wash the walls before I could go any further.  Once the walls were washed the painting went relatively quickly, but my morning was done, and only one piece of moulding made it to the wall.

The afternoon, however, went fairly smoothly, and I got the moulding on most of the room. By the end of today all three client rooms have crown moulding on them, and Gary’s room has the doors hung. Except for the door trim, carpet, and a final coat of paint his room is ready for guests.Client_1_jan_13_20062smallClient_1_jan_13_2006small

The nice thing about this week is that there are a lot of visual changes in the place, and it finally feels as though it is all coming together.Garys_room_jan_13_2006small
