Our weekend family outings are a little different than most. Certainly not everyone, but this time of year its rare that you'd find families outside of the Arctic that have an outing built around dog sledding.
We took a short jaunt out to Uluksa for coffee and tea, but mostly to get a dog sled run in for the kids and Bolt. While the rest of us were on Snowmobiles, Travis was pulled there by Bolt. I've been wanting to ease her into this, as I don't know just how far you could expect an unconditioned dog to pull a sled. This run was her longest yet, about 2kms one way without stopping.
After a short break for hot beverages, we turned and came back, with the other kids taking turns on the sled.

Happy Easter, Clare!
very nice…our outing involved a walk through the woods and along the floodplain
That looks like so much fun. What a brilliant environment.
Thanks Megan, you too.
Thanks Darin, it sounds like you’ve had some cool birds come through this weekend.
It is a brilliant place for sure Pete. Still waiting for you to take that plunge and come visit. These lamb shanks won’t last forever.
Kia ora Clare,
Brilliant. Man snowmobiles look a bit more sleek than when I was last one 29 some years ago. They look fast. The dogs look more fun. Hope all is well.
Cheers,
Robb
What a great outing, Clare. Love the idea of a family trip like that. When I lived in the high Sierras, we’d do x-country ski trips like that. We’d go out into my parent’s meadow on skis and come to a spot where my step-dad had set up a picnic with hot chocolate and cookies and quilts spread on logs and then we’d all haul the stuff back. I haven’t thought of that in eons. Thanks for the memory!
Kia ora Robb. Yes, snowmobiles have definitely gotten sleeker and faster in the past 29 years. The yellow one is a 1200 and scares the bejeebers out of me.
They are great outings Liza, so would skiing in the Sierras. Awesome.
