Travis' kindergarten class graduated today. Ready to take on the world. Afterwards he said "Dad, tomorrow I'm in Grade I". He was so thrilled about it I almost didn't want to tell him he now has the summer off… or that there are 12 more years, undergraduate and med school still left.
Class of 2020. The class with vision!

Why can’t our children retain that all through their years in school? What is it we are doing wrong?
Being a teacher myself I can ask those questions with impunity and I wish I had the answers.
Is it that we try to fashion square pegs out of persons of all shapes and sizes? Is school too far removed from the reality outside its’ walls?
Congratulations! How much did you cry? 🙂
I’m not sure Trudie, but I imagine it’s many reasons, including the fact that 12 years is a long time, 2/3rds of an 18 year olds life. A long time to be interested in anything. Some kids are challenged too much, others not enough. Let’s face it, the last high school years have a lot of changes going on, not the least of which is whatever hormone that makes you think all adults are stupid.
Thanks Liza. Surprisingly I didn’t. Not like me.
