The day is dawning, and its the first day of the Great Backyard Bird Count.  Just a reminder that those who submit checklists for Nunavut are eligible to win a book.  Just drop me an email with your name and for what community the list is for.

  • A drive into twilight.

Yesterday was an incredibly beautiful day, even though it was punctuated with a cold, cold wind (that seemed to be confined to Arctic Bay). We decided to take advantage of the growing light and go for a drive, although by the time we got our act together the sun had already set. It mattered little

  • My Return of the Sun

The Sun returned two days ago, but not for me.  For some reason I missed a day, and thus the return of the Sun to Arctic Bay. Yesterday, the sky was completely overcast, and again I didn't see it. So today marks the official return of the Sun to Clare.   It goes by quickly, the

  • Committees, coffee and clouds

Okay, I've been a bad blogger. And I can't help it. Well I can, but I've been occupied of late and tired, and so when I sit in front of a blank composing screen my mind matches it, blank. I actually almost fell off the office chair a couple of days ago when I fell

  • Missing the dark

Our light grows daily. In a weeks time, if I took the trouble to drive to the airport at noon I'd see the sun. I'll see it in a couple of weeks here in Arctic Bay regardless. The last couple of days most of the automatic street lights went out, there is that much light

  • 10… 9… 8…

If all goes well, Travis and I will soon be able to launch a rocket into the cold skies above Arctic Bay. Last week the rocket kit, and launch pad kit arrived and we put it together yesterday. We are awaiting some engines (traveling separately as Dangerous Goods), and a nice day without much wind.

  • Venus as our twilight grows

If you're looking for the polls for the Nunies they're slipping a little farther down the page. Best Blog here; Best New Blog here; and Best Post here. If they get too far down there I'll bring them back to the top. Our sky grows steadily lighter during the day now. Every day makes a
