If you don’t already I encourage you to visit the Boreal Songbird Initiative Blog. The main author, Jeff Wells, the Senior Scientist for the BSI, is currently in the MacKenzie River Valley right now, a place dear to my heart. I lived in Fort Providence for two years and have very good memories of the Deh Cho (Slavey for Big River). His posts from the region have brought back great memories of the bird life in the region. In fact, if you have the opportunity, Fort Providence is easily accessible by road, and air, and is well worth the trip, not only for the bird life but it is also home to the MacKenzie Wood Buffalo Sanctuary.
I was especially taken back to my annual day of banding waterfowl in Mills Lake with the group from the US Fish and Wildlife Service that came up every year. So go check out the site, and maybe you can convince Jeff to submit posts to I and the Bird while you are at it.
