I live in an obscenely beautiful place.

Last night we took a drive to Nanisivik, meandering slowly along the road, seeing where everyone was going to pick their blueberries.  We drove down to the dock, to see the progress on the dismantling of the ore shed (an insanely huge structure).  A Coast Guard Icebreaker was anchored out in Strathcona Sound, but I’m not sure which one it was.  We then took a trip to visit "our" Red-throated Loon family. The chicks are now about 2/3’s the size of the adults, it won’t be long before they are taking to wing.

On the way back we stopped to try and find some blueberries ourselves. Travis was asleep in the back seat and we grabbed Hilary in her car seat and headed up the slope. There were a few berries, not a lot and Hilary quickly started getting fussy.  As it seemed like she was getting cold I took her back down to the truck to warm her up, while Leah continued to pick berries.

As I sat there feeding her I watched the sun play off the fog flowing through the valleys, and across Arctic Bay, bathing the world in a golden light. A lone Raven foraged just above the crest of the hill, dipping and soaring silhouetted against the sky. As Hilary dropped off to sleep, I watched Leah moving across the hill, bent low over the red carpet of blueberries, as the sky turned from golden to rose and purple. Light_and_fog_sm

Once again I realized that I am an extremely lucky man.
