This is near midnight in the shadows of the hills, with low clouds obscuring the Sun. This first photo is underexposed a stop to bring out the colour, and I lightened the little patch of fog to highlight it. If you look really closely you can see the family of Red-throated Loons tucked in at the left edge, midway up the photo.
This photo was underexposed slightly, and the tonal contrast bumped up. It made a grainy photo even more grainy and when I removed the grain with Define, it took away some of the details, giving it the feel of a painting. I rather like the effect.
