Oh no! My laptop is sick. The screen isn’t displaying anything. It is like the screen has gone into sleep mode and won’t come out. You can just barely make out anything that is on the screen. I’ve gone through all the steps on the support page of Apple’s but to no avail.
So… the rest of the Incident at Mickey’s Camp may have to wait, as it is being written as a word document on the lap top.
I want my Powerbook back!!!! ….although…. maybe I can turn this into justification for one of the new Macbook Pros. Hmmm.

No, I don’t think I can afford one just now, as much as I covet it. Nor can I afford the repairs to the laptop which are estimated at $1000+ plus shipping to Ottawa and back.
However, I finally figured out how to hook up an external monitor with out the laptop thinking that it is a second monitor (Apple supports two monitors). So now I have two desktop computers, and can finish (eventually) the Mickey’s Camp story and my letter to the Prime Minister.
Maybe it’s time to get a PC. 😉
I like Apple computers but after hearing endless complaints from *everyone* I know who has one, I’d never get one.
I hope you figure something out, though! Do you have another computer?
A PC?? had a couple of those, I’ll never go back. I’m surprised that you’ve heard endless complaints from Apple users. We’re generally a pretty satisfied lot. OSX is a very stable platform and I’ve been very happy since I made the switch 8 or 9 years ago. Not near the problems. Of course hardware is hardware and at some point something is bound to happen. I will probably eventually get a new MacBook Pro but until then I have the Powermac (desktop), Leah’s 12″ Powerbook and can still use my laptop as a desktop, although it is a little redundant sitting beside the Powermac.
I’ve been using a Mac at home for the better part of 6 years now (iMac and an iBook) and have never had a problem. Wonderful machines. My wife bought a Toshiba laptop and it’s been driving her nuts, although that’s primarily because Windows sucks.
Btw, Claire, I’d go with a standard Macbook or even one of the new iMacs is you’re looking for a new machine. You don’t get that much more with the Pro considering the extra cost. Only worth it if you’re doing a lot of graphic design work.
thanks Craig, but when did this computer stuff become what I need as opposed to want?? I’ve really gotten used to that huge 17″ display and although I thought I’d end up prefering the compactedness of Leah’s 12″ I don’t. Besides the aluminum cases of the Pros just look so cool. And, um, I need it for my graphic design work, yeah that’s it, my graphic design work.

I have a titanium G4 Powerbook 400 and the screen went earlier on this year. At first it got really dark so I used another monitor, and then it got completely black and I could not always get the other monitor to work if I couldn’t see something on the powerbook. Anyway, after a long time searching Apple’s info and the web in general I chose to order a part for the monitor that had worked for some people. It took a lot of guts to fix it, mine, and the whole inside of the computers, but it got the monitor to work again. It was about $200. If you need the info., let me know by email.
