One of the events that happened during our eleven or so days with out internet service was that my beautiful strong daughter turned one. Although she turned one on the 21st of January, we actually had her birthday party on the 20th because the 21st was a Sunday, and you can’t be playing games on a Sunday now, can you?
A big part of Birthday traditions here is that the family sponsors games for the birthday. Not a bad thing, but it always seems to me that it is less about the kids and more about the adults. We actually held the party at Leah’s mom’s place as there were two or three other people who wanted to put on a couple of games also.
We were pretty rushed as I actually hadn’t finished the cakes until the eleventh hour, and when we got there there was already a crowd of people on hand. Hilary got two cakes this year, a 3D Winnie the Pooh and, of course, Elmo. She greatly enjoyed her first taste of Chocolate cake and I’m pretty sure that her next word will be chocolate as she was quickly over to the side of anyone that still had cake in their hand.
I had to leave as I had a client to get supper ready for, but when I returned the games were in full swing. They ran from about 7:00 until the prizes ran out, sometime after eleven. I entertained the kids most of the time I was there (Clare, the human monkey bars) and was wore out from having them climb on me and from throwing them in the air for what seemed like hours on end.
All in all it was a great evening. It is hard to believe that we’ve made another trip ’round the sun since Hilary first graced our lives. Can’t believe just how fast time is slipping away. Next year she’ll probably want the keys to the truck.

A bonnie baby, Clare. Many happy returns of the day to her.
A very happy (belated) birthday, Hilary!
A year really does seem like no time at all…

(and I’m coming up there to warm up! would you toss us around to get the circulation going?)
Thanks all, and the time does zoom by doesn’t it. Love to have you up here Cindy, and yes being thrown in the air is part of the service we offer here.
Your daughter just looks absolutely adorable. Happy (belated) birthday. Bonne Fête Hilary! (As for handing her the keys to the trucks, yes, it’s just around the corner ! But between now and then, there will be a million of memories. And probably a couple of trucks)
