A recent reader of the House sent me an email recently looking for help from Nunavumiut. She's currently in the end stages of an Art project, making baskets from scrap fabrics gleaned from every province and territory, in the provincial/territorial colours of each territory.
I've copied her request here below the fold so you can read in her own words about the project and what she is looking for.
Hello from Ontario, Nunavut!
I am looking for help from fellow artists/craftspeople/designers in Nunavut who might be able to connect me to resources for a project I am currently working on.
My name is Katherine Morley, I am a recent grad from the Ontario College of Art and Design, and the project I am working on right now is called "Provincial/Territorial Baskets". The baskets are made with textiles painstakingly collected from each corresponding Canadian province or territory, and they feature the predominant colours of the provincial or territorial flag. So far I have been able to collect materials from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Yukon and Northwest Territories, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Quebec. I am only missing New Bruswick, PEI and Nunavut. The baskets will be shown at The Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, in a show called Piecework, which runs November 5-9 2008. I will attach a photo of two of the completed baskets, for the curious…. 🙂
I am hoping this email finds its way into the hands of someone who might be able be able to send me a small quantity of scrap fabric in any of the Nunavut's territorial colours: red, gold, white and blue. The textile could take almost any shape or form– a t-shirt, a bedsheet, ribbons, yarn– I am not picky, so long as it is extra, off-cut or scrap material that can be cut into strips for coiling. New material that has been languishing in your sewing room for too many years would be acceptable, as long as you wouldn't mind donating it to the project. Of course, I would fully cover the cost of shipping the fabric to Ontario. And you would earn my eternal gratitude, and be listed in the "Special Thank You" section of the show, and in any accompanying literature.
Would you please, please pass this email along to anyone who might be interested in helping me out? I am hoping the thought of helping out a fellow crafter, and earning some good Karma will be enough to spark the favour of a few people.
Thanks in advance, for any help you can lend,
Katherine Morley

Hi Clare,
I hope you don’t mind but I linked you with my site for the “I love your blog” award.

I may not write much on here but I pretty much read it weekly!
Hey Tina,
You’ve managed to live in all of the rest? That’s cool.
Hope it works out Katherine. Let us know.
Thanks for that Melissa. Its always an honour (and a surprise) when people feel that way about the House.
