Birds, birds, birds

Once again I’m issuing a challenge to any of my Nunavut readers and friends to take part in this Citizen Science project. If you go over to their website, you can get all the details you need.  Essentially the project involves getting out on any one or all of the days and counting the birds you see. In the high Arctic that would mostly involve Ravens (Corvus corax) but there are other possibilities as well. Your results (the number of each species seen at any one time – if you saw a group of five Snowy Owls, and then later saw another one, and still later another two, your total would be five) are entered online and if there was any need for a review (unusual species or numbers) then I’d contact you for details.  It is a great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors while contributing to an excellent citizen science project.

And speaking of the GBBC, today is the last chance to win a book, the Audubon Backyard Birdwatch, simply by leaving a comment about your favourite backyard book over at 10,000 Birds.  Go there now, what more do you need once you’ve heard the words Free Book.

And finally, it is nice to know that winter is happening some place other than the High Arctic.  Check out the Winter Doldrum Edition of I and the Bird (#68) over at Biological Ramblings.  As always there are a lot of excellent bird posts to choose from.
