Lately I’ve been missing flashes of blue in my landscape. There are blues of course, I’m looking out on a beautiful blue sky, at night the deepening dark turns incredible shades of blue turning to indigo before the black of the night. But I’m longing for those bright flashes of blue, that appear on feathered wings.

When I was in Fort Providence amongst the first spring arrivals were Mountain Bluebirds.  They arrived on mass, and stayed for the briefest time. But what a glorious time it was.  Everywhere the eye looked there were blue feathered flashes, in stark relief against the snow.

And what landscape isn’t better with a pair of raucous Blue Jays in it. They are loud and brash, and oh so, so bright.  e.e. cummings understood them.
