Halloween is one of those "no miss" events on the Arctic Bay calender, if only for the fantastic costume contest in the evening. I've blogged so many times about Halloween (four I think) that it is difficult to come up with something new to say.  So I'll post some photos instead.

This is Travis' rather minimalistic costume. And by the way, he designed the Jack O' Lantern._MG_2011

Trick or treating is scheduled here (usually 5-7 on Halloween evening, but sometimes the day before or after, especially if it falls on a Sunday). After trick or treating the costume contest gets underway in the gym.

It is hard to describe the costumes which are a mish mash of many objects. One of the goals is to remain hidden, but apart from that the general idea is to piece together clothing and objects. As Gary once said, stuff your pants and tie a kettle to your a$$.  Humour goes a long way, and if you can make the judges laugh at your costume you stand a better chance of winning.

I didn't think the costumes were as exceptional this year, except for one of the ones in the 12 and under category. The costume itself was a Muskox skin that they draped over themselves, a la a pantomime horse. The head was a ghost made of a sheet, and it wasn't so much the costume as their antics. Their walk, the way they chased kids, and "lay down" was hilarious. At one point the back end of the creature waved his bum at us in the audience. The whole effect was quite funny, and these kids were under twelve years old._MG_2031

The winning adult stuffed himself inside a suitcase and had someone wheel them around the gym._MG_2061
