There has been much keeping me away from the blog of late but I'll spare you the details, for now. In a little bit of spare time I've started playing with Apple's Aperture program, and the plugins for it from Nik Software. There is much to learn and I've only scratched the surface. Here is a couple of photos, one of which I've posted before, that I've converted to black and white with Silver Efex Pro.

That first photo’s a stunner, Clare — a great choice for B&W, and wonderfully executed.
I’ve used Lightroom (Adobe’s equivalent of Aperture) since its inception and would do it hard to have to resort to Photoshop/Bridge for managing photos and doing the RAW conversions. From what I can see, Aperture and Lightroom do pretty much the same things, although I’m sure there’s unlimited scope for vigorous (and probably pointless) debate about their relative merits. I’m glad I have no choice — Aperture is Mac-only, so I have to be satisfied with Lightroom (which I am).
The cost of the Nik plugins precludes my going that way.
Clare,
Been checking in. Glad to see you are still around.

Love that first photo Clare. There’s just something so quintessentially “Arctic” about it.
Thanks Pete. The Nik plugins were expensive, but I mitigated that by lumping everything in with the new computer. Still just as expensive it just didn’t seem as bad compared to everything else. I’ve extremely happy with them so far.
Hi Dave, thanks. I’m hard to get rid of.
I love it to Darcy. The colour version was one of my entries in Canadian Geographic’s photo contest.
