Good morning from Iqaluit…
I enjoy your blogs alot as I am from Arctic Bay and I take a peek at your site on daily basis, trying to see some pictures and how things are, in real time. Wonders of the internet.
Seeing that a lot of non-native people read and comment, I would like to take this opportunity, with yourself as you may have picked up few Inuktitut language; alot of times there are reference made to “Inuit”; i.e. Inuit male, Inuit food, Inuit people, Inuit this and that.
I think its time that I try to make readers and such to use the term “Inuit” favourably and appropiately, thus;
Inuk – one
Inuuk – 2
Inuit – more than two
Good example is that there was this press release from the RCMP about “Inuit male” doing B/E. It would be more appropiate to say; “Inuk” male.
I think you know what I mean and probably can write better about it. Maybe a good idea to bring that up in the upcoming Language Summmit.
One other thing….:
Maybe the the mongolians went to Asia from our area instead…???
Hey Joanasie,
Good to hear from you as always. I’ll try and make that a post one of these days. I’m always leery of posting on language because I invariably get it wrong.
One thing that I’d like to see in terms of the Nunavut Blogging community are more blogs in Inuktitut and/or by Inuit. There are unfortunately so very few of them, and the few that I know of don’t post very often.
