This post was actually made over a week ago on the 25th of April. For some reason it saved as a draft instead of posting. So here it is now.
We're in Winnipeg.
And we're very tired. Starting your day at 4:00 am after flying all day and then not stopping all day, tends to wear one down. Shopping malls suck the energy from me at the best of time, but we were all out like a light the moment we hit the room. My brain shut down so bad (yeah, save the jokes for the comments) that I couldn't calculate the tip when room service showed up. But we're rested, and we've swam and now I can actually string a relatively coherent thought together. But not well, so here are some random thoughts.
- You know, I've always expected that Apple was more like a cult than anything else, but a visit to the Apple Store today sealed it. I half expected a choir to break out singing. And it wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of those blue "Genius" t-shirt people show up at the door with literature. But they were very helpful and man I had some serious coveting going on. I'm very thankful the iPad hasn't been released here yet.
- Speaking of the Apple Store, funniest moment of the trip so far happened there. The fellow helping me had just hooked up the MacBook with one of theirs, via Firewire, to see if the MacBook could be hooked up in Firewire Target mode so we can get the data off the hard drive (the repairs would probably be too costly to make it worth fixing). Another employee at the Genius Bar comes up and points to the Firewire cable connecting our two working laptops and asks "Are you using that?". We looked at each other and back at him, and my helper says "What do you think?". A little out of place at a "Genius" bar, but my guy pointed out that he didn't have "Genius" on his tag yet.
- Is it just me, or have they been putting silicon in the water down here.
- Best moment of the trip so far has been Travis' free association as the plane was on its final approach in Ottawa: "Dad, look a truck! There's another truck! Look, there's a red truck! There's a whole bunch of trucks! Dad look! There's water! Trees! There's grass! Dad! Somebody's golfing! By the airport! Look at the plane!"
- Second best moment(s) has been Travis in the pool. In the space of a little more than an hour he went from clinging to me to rudimentary self taught swimming, to diving down and picking coins off the bottom of the pool.
