Sick with a head cold, and possibly more. And it kept me up last night. So I read from Billy Collins' collection "Water Water".  And this poem came about.

The house is silent
Save for the aquarium’s flow
And the strange, subtle noise
The fridge is famous for

And the occasional buzz of the phone
As it vibrates out the arrival
Of your texts.
“I can’t sleep”

This cold is keeping me awake
5 am be damned. And sitting out here
Is comfortable, and I’m coughless
For a while.

So I’m reading poetry
Billy Collins
Because I’m comfortable
And I’m not wanting to keep you up

“I told you I can’t sleep”
And, perhaps, because
I’m reading poetry
I want to answer

“Moi non plus”
