While I’ve been sitting here, waiting for some form of inspiration to hit me upside the head, fingers on the keyboard, I noticed that there are a few snowflakes drifting down. Living at this latitude one can expect to see snow every month of the year. It is rarest in July but you can pretty much expect to see some each year during that month.

When I first moved here on the 18th of August 1999, I got to experience three of our seasons in fairly quick order. It was gorgeous and warm when I arrived, however a day or two later turned rainy, windy and cold (Incidently three days after I arrived a polar bear was shot in town after attempts to scare it out failed. A fairly rare event to have a polar bear 1) in town, and 2) shot , it was very interesting as the bear appeared to have been a dwarf. It had been tattooed in 1975, however it was only about 6 feet long, the size of an adolescent bear, its head was the size of a full grown twenty five year old bear. I encountered another dwarf animal here, an adult Ringed Seal that had been found dead in its aglu. It was the size of pup, about the size they’d be this time of year. But I digress…)

On the 26th of August that year we received a major snow fall, which stayed on the ground. We actually had a snowball fight at the airport that day. That snow stayed with us ’til spring.

Okay, this is depressing, talking about snow and it isn’t even July yet, this isn’t quite the inspiration I was looking for. Perhaps its time to go seek out some wildflowers.
