I’ve been tied up with guests, and cooking and I’ve managed to let an anniversary slip by (not Leah’s and mine, that was a week ago tomorrow – four years). It’s been a year since we started construction on the house, not including the piling, which went in last July. One year.

I find it incredible that the time has both flown by, and dragged on. It seems like it was only a month or two ago when the last sealift ship arrived, and we started building. But when ever I think about opening, most days it seems like it will never happened. I don’t know how many times I’ve said that we’ll be opening in four weeks. Now when people ask I just say, when its done. When you think you’ve got everything smoothed out, another bump will come along. The latest – our sea container or sea can had holes rusted in the roof, and has been leaking all summer on our kitchen cabinets. We’ve taken some damage but it could have been worse. Add that to our damaged interior doors, well I guess we’ll just have to run over to Home Depot.
Would I do it again? Oh yeah, hopefully smarter, and a little less costly. But I mean, I’ve received a first class education in construction, from a good friend and great teacher. And on top of that we’ll have a great home and business, built better than any other home I know. And Travis will have a legacy unlike most others in the Arctic. Heck yeah I’d do it again.
