I’ve decided that I kind of like this finish carpentry stuff. I mean it is fiddley, and you don’t often get to bash things with a large hammer, but I enjoy my attempts at being precise (that would be Gary’s cue to roll his eyes). I spent part of today putting in shelves in all of the closets and part of the day building a desk.
Two of the client rooms have rather standard desks in them, but one of the rooms doesn’t have the space for a regular desk, and instead has a small alcove between the door and the washroom. It is roughly three feet wide and 18 inches deep and is for a built in desk. So today I built it in.
Well not exactly, I cut all of the pieces, routered the edges of the backsplashes (after a couple of attempts, nothing says MISTAKE quite like a router mistake), and put everything in place without fastening it. It needs to be finished and fastened. It is made of birch plywood, with birch nosing, front piece and back/side splash. This is what it looks like unfinished… (please note that the front piece is just hanging there willy nilly and not square)

“nothing says MISTAKE quite like a router mistake”.
Wise words. Being a former mechanic that attempts carpentry at home and the clinic, I know what you mean all too well.
The job looks excellent!
