Driving back from the airport the day before yesterday I could not see any ice in Admiralty Inlet, Adams Sound or Strathcona Sound. Three days ago there was still some pack in Victor Bay but that seems to have moved off also.  After nine months with some ice to be seen it is nice to see so much open water.  Of course the ice disappearing means that Winter is just around the corner, the sun is dipping lower and lower and will start to set in about a weeks time.

The ice in Arctic Bay (the body of water) started breaking up around the 5th of July this year, which would be about 10 days to a week early.  It is starting to get worrisome how much Climate Change is affecting us up here, ice leaving earlier, more rain (although we’ve had a nicer summer this year than any since 2002) etc. The elders say they can no longer predict what the ice is going to do. But luckily someone in charge is on top of all this warming…aren’t they?
