Sea water freezes at about -3C, and up here the water is never really far from that temperature. As a result, even more than a month before we can expect Arctic Bay to freeze, on calm days without a lot of direct sun ice can start to form.  This picture was taken this morning and as (I hope) you can see there is a lot of ice forming.  This is called Grey Ice, and sometimes when a little more progressed Pancake Ice.
