Darcy from Way Way Up, the other Arctic Bay blogger, posted a satellite photo of the north Baffin the other day on his blog. And proving once again that I don’t have an original thought in my head I thought that I’d carry on with the theme.
We’re surprisingly well served by satellite imaging up here, with access to two different sites that provide images of the Floe Edge in the spring. But what I really wanted to share with you was the view from Google Earth (which if I’m not mistaken uses images provided by Europa). Adam, one of the RCMP members here, let me know the other day that they now have high resolution pictures of Arctic Bay on Google Earth, so that coupled with the fact that Google Earth now supports my operating system, prompted me to go have a look. Absolutely incredible, and I’ve been having a lot of fun zooming all over Canada, looking for my old houses etc..
The image for Arctic Bay is about four years old judging by what is and isn’t there, and the House is not on it. It is incredibly detailed, you can easily make out vehicles etc. and tents, snowmobiles and komotiqs at Victor Bay. Here is a screenshot of Arctic Bay, showing most of the community. You can zoom in even closer than this, so come visit. You can find us at 73 01′ N, 85 09′ W.

Checked you out as soon as I installed Google Earth Clare, I’ll have a look at the new high res. version as soon as I start up the other box, thanks for the tip.
I can see my house!!! Okay, the house I lived in LAST year. More detail in that shot than I’ve seen from my hometown in Ontario though.
