Thought I’d post a couple of pictures for your perusal. The first is the sky from earlier this morning. It is a little darker than in reality but will give you an idea of that wonderful gradient that is the sky up here now.
The other picture shows how much light we have at noon this time of year, two weeks away from Solstice. Not a star in the sky at noon.
And I’ll leave you with this little message from my favourite philosopher.

I’m going to try to remember to come back and look at these pictures whenever I’m complaining about how short the days are now. 🙂
Great pictures Clare!
Looks like it is really cold “up there”:-)
I love it when it is cold and the air is clear like in the daytime picture, as long as their isn’t any wind!
Beautiful!
Breathtaking light, Clare! And your Calvin & Hobbes cartoon says it all. I’m glad you have the Ravens to keep you company during your long winter.
Beautiful sky shots, Claire. I keep meaning to ask if you have had good displays of the aurora lately? I was thinking that we might see something down here in eastern Ontario this week due to the solar flares, but nothing so far (I keep watching, but we’ve also had a lot of heavy cloud cover for the past month or so). Also, when you see the aurora, do you hear sound with them? A couple of times when we’ve had very good displays, there’s been a sound like crackling ice or of distant high-pitched chimes. I guess hearing sound with them is common (at least there seems to be plenty of discussion over what makes the sounds). An Inuit artist I met here in Ottawa mentioned the sound of them, so I’m guessing it must be fairly conspicuous up north compared to here.
