Look. Up in the sky, it’s..

The night before last Travis, for some unknown reason, said that we should look at the planets with a telescope.  Now I’m pretty sure that he didn’t even know that we have a telescope, but it prompted me to get the scope out of the attic and put it together, for the first time since I’ve been to Arctic Bay.

The scope is a 4 inch Dobsonian Reflector and by the time I got it assembled and remembered which end to point into the sky, it was pretty late.  We didn’t get much gazing in, and a quick look at the sky didn’t reveal any planets at that time of the night, but we did look at a couple of stars. Tonight though, I’ll have had time to brush up on where everything is and we should do better.  Unfortunately, for some strange reason only one of the eye pieces was in the box, the low power one, but it’s a start. I really love the night sky, and hopefully Travis (and Hilary) will share that love. After all, what is the use of a telescope if its still in its box.Dsc02329
