I don’t know what it is about even, round numbers but we seem to be partial to taking notice of them. I took a picture of my odometre at 100,000 kms this fall, but really 99,999.9 is the more interesting odometre reading. One of my blog odometres turned over 100,000 an hour or so ago. I’ve had 100,000 hits on the House and other Arctic Musings since I added Statcounter in May last year. Most days I have a hard time comprehending that there are people out there that have read my words that many times. I suspect somehow that my mother has hacked into either Statcounter or Typepad and messed with the numbers.
I don’t, however, have a hard time believing that many more people than that would stop by and visit 10,000 Birds. It is an excellent blog, written by excellent people. If you get a chance, stop by there sometime over the next 3 days. The poll is up for their "In Praise of…" essay contest. There were at least five excellent essays over there to chose from, and I’ve one up there also. So read the offerings on Great Auks, Bionic Condors, Wood Ducks, House Sparrows, Black-capped Chickadees and Ravens, and vote for the one that you like. It will quickly become apparent to you that the winner is you, the reader.

Clare, your counter reflects how very interesting and well-written your blog is – you deserve far more! And thanks for the kind words re 10,000 Birds – joining Mike and Corey was a big leap of faith for me but I’m really loving it! Happy holidays and good luck on your Christmas Bird Count 🙂
Thanks Charlie. I’m looking forward to hearing of your Big Year adventures. I’m sure there are a couple of species up here that you could use.
And we’re hoping to double the species for the CBC this year. Ambitious, I know, but within our grasp.
So enquiring minds want to know… where the heck did you GO to rack up 100,000 kms? You can only drive to Nanisivik so many times!!
Well, when I bought the truck it already had 30,000 kms on it, and I was down south. When I moved up here I believe it had 80 some thousand. It is a 10 year old vehicle. and the almost 20,000 kms add up surprisingly quickly driving back and forth to Nanisivik, Victor Bay, 1st Bridge, 2nd Bridge etc.
